it is, as I stated previously, focusing on the WOMEN—the women who bought drugs instead of buying food for their kids, the women who murdered their children, the women who spent time in prison or were “whores” in school….or—here’s a thought—

feminism*s* has made all sorts of spaces for “dark pasts”—some have done it better than others—*F*eminism hasn’t done that great of a job of it, but even *they* have found ways to understand welfare mothers outside of “lazy whore.”

the thing to notice here is that MEN DON’T GET TO DECIDE HOW MUCH SPACE IS TO BE MADE FOR “DARK PASTS”—AND THEY SURE DON’T GET TO DECIDE THAT THEIR DARK PAST IS MORE DESERVING OF SPACE THAN ALL THE ABUSED WOMEN WHO TRIED TO KILL (or did kill) THEIR ABUSIVE EX’S.

I cannot, cannot believe that we are here. I cannot, cannot believe that the major feminist news is about how a dude is mad that he can’t speak for women. I cannot wrap my head around the fact that so many people are entertaining this. I cannot believe that he is arguing not that he isn’t fucked up and hasn’t been misogynist, but that we should be letting him in anyway. He’s not even saying that he should be allowed to be here. He’s saying he should be allowed to be a figurehead of our movement. It’s bizarre. 

I cannot, cannot wrap my head around the fact that he’s saying feminism is only for protecting people with one type of dark past: abusive ones. Schwyzer wants feminism to protect people men people with dark pasts as abusers, but those people whose dark pasts were filled with being abused are unconsidered.

I cannot believe that people are expecting me to stand for this. I cannot be a part of a movement or a people that wants me to stand for this.
