The image of womanhood in “Josie” is a very specific brand of misogynistic, but there’s something sort of subtly/radically pro-woman about their naming of a fondness for DHC as a marker for a perfect, authentic punk rock girl: a band that was fronted by a woman, consisted of a bunch of other women, and had a historically female-driven fan base. And is, to Mark Hoppus, perfect.
